Team Erik Hagen

Virginia Institute of Autism's "Run 5K for Autism"

As many of you know, my son, Erik, has autism. He has been attending the Virginia Institute of Autism (VIA) for over three years.  VIA operates the only program for adults with autism in the Charlottesville area. Erik has few other options and without access to a specialized adult program, he faces “falling off the autism cliff” (a situation well known to parents of adult children with autism and other significant disabilities).

This year's race will be held on 22 April and will support VIA's efforts to expand services for both adults and children with autism, invest in technology, train educators and caregivers, and invest in building an environment allowing our children to achieve their full potential. This fundraising effort is especially important as it as been instrumental over the past several years in providing the additional funding needed to establish and expand the adult program in the face of limited financial support from the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Last year's "Run 5K for Autism" race had over 1300 participants and raised over $130,000. Team Erik Hagen raised $2100 of that amount and was one of the top fundraising teams (many thanks to those who helped us meet our goal).

Please click on "Erik Hagen" under the Team Roster to see Erik's personal message and a short video of how far VIA has come in the last 20 years.

Erik (and many others) will be grateful for your support.
